Corporate social responsibility is important for the electrical and electronics industry. As the industry guidelines from the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI e.V.), the Code of Conduct (CoC) sets out what this means in terms of working conditions, social and environmental responsibility as well as transparency, collaboration based on trust, and dialogue.

To provide some background information, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission implemented the stipulations of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 (known as the Dodd-Frank Act) on 22 August 2012 and issued regulations on the notification and disclosure of use of what are known as conflict minerals.
Companies listed on United States stock exchange are obliged to report annually to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission as to whether their products contain conflict materials that are necessary to their function or production.
The aims of these regulations is to prevent the trade of conflict materials originating from mines in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and its neighbouring countries, which are helping finance armed conflicts there.
