Turck extends its production capacity
Turck extends its production capacity at the Beierfeld site
Minister President Stanislaw Tillich officially opens the extension
Beierfeld, Germany (4 July 2014) – Today, Turck Beierfeld GmbH officially opened its new ten-million euro building in Beierfeld in a ceremony attended by Stanislaw Tillich, Minister President of the Free State of Saxony. As a centre for innovation and electronic manufacturing using state-of-the-art technology within the Turck group, the extension to the Beierfeld site will play an important role in future business development.
- The usable floor space for manufacturing, development, logistics and quality control has been increased by 9,000 square metres to cover a total area of 23,500 square metres
- Around 20 million euros have been invested in the extension, state-of-the-art systems and machinery and renovations to the existing buildings during the period between 2012 and 2015
- Room for 110 additional workstations
Work on the extension was successfully completed at the beginning of April 2014 after a construction period of about 18 months. Subsequent adaptations and renovations to the existing buildings will continue into the second half of the year. The opening of the company extension is a reflection of the Turck group’s continuous and sustainable investment in the Beierfeld site. Turck has been expanding its production site in Beierfeld at a considerable rate since 2012, and has made major investments in order to successively increase development capacities. Rapid business development over the past few years made the new building and the renovations necessary in order to provide the space needed to ensure successful future growth at the Beierfeld site.
Representatives from the scientific, political and business communities attend the official opening
Stanislaw Tillich, Minister President of the Free State of Saxony, and other representatives from the scientific, political and business communities were invited to attend this special event. After the official ceremony, the invited guests had the opportunity to take a tour of the new facilities. Among other things, the new building is home to numerous production workstations and new offices for development, quality control and logistics.
Commitment to the site in Saxony
“We are honoured that Minister President Stanislaw Tillich has taken the time to attend the official opening of our extension and greatly appreciate the importance he has attached to our company,” says Eberhard Grünert, Managing Director at Turck Beierfeld GmbH. “Turck has guaranteed electronic manufacturing according to the highest technological standards for more than 24 years in the Ore Mountains region. We invest sustainably in the site and create many highly skilled jobs and training positions.”
Eberhard Grünert used his speech at the opening to highlight the fact that Turck Beierfeld GmbH has almost tripled the overall performance of the Beierfeld site over the past 12 years since the last construction project in Beierfeld in 2002, which was the second one that the company had carried out. At the same time, Turck duotec’s manufacturing volume of customer-specific electronics increased five-fold, while the sensor production and the total number of employees doubled. Turck Beierfeld has even more than doubled the number of employees involved in research and development in the last five years.
“As an innovator in electronic manufacturing, we will continue to make our contribution to shaping the 4th industrial revolution in the future here in Saxony by developing and manufacturing intelligent products and turning the future-oriented combination of modern smart factory and mass customisation core competencies into reality,” emphasised Eberhard Grünert.
Electronic manufacturing and development at the Beierfeld site
Beierfeld has been a manufacturing and development site for the Turck Group since 1990. The origins of the group date back to the Turck company, which was founded by Hans und Werner Turck in 1965. Besides the development and manufacture of high-quality electronics solutions for industrial automation, Turck duotec GmbH focuses on the sale, development and manufacture of customer-specific electronics. As well as extending the usable floor space, the optimization and further automation of THT soldering processes will play an important part this year.
The five employees who started up Turck at the Beierfeld site in 1990 have now become a highly-motivated manufacturing and development team of around 390 employees. Eberhard Grünert is the Managing Director at Turck Beierfeld GmbH. The first company building was built in 1997 and extended by 7,500 square metres in 2002.
